Voters of five states are heading to the polls on Tuesday to finish the most contentious primary elections of this year.

In Florida candidates have funneled a staggering $100m into races and set a new record for the most expensive primary elections in the history of the state.

Arizona faced the issue of illegal immigration, which was dominating and seeped into a host of races across the country. And Sarah Palin’s shadow looms over the Republican primary showdowns unfolding in Alaska.

In Vermont, one of the gubernatorial candidates is poised to secure the state’s Democratic nomination and advance to compete in gubernatorial general elections.

In Oklahoma there’s more political action taking place, including two congressional runoffs.
