O’Connell Street Statue to be Moved for Metro Work

Some of Dublin’s most iconic statues are to be removed from O’Connell Street in Dublin to allow construction of Metro-North.

Assuming planning permission is granted, the monuments of Daniel O’Connell, James Larkin, John Gray and William Smith-O’Brien will be re-located to National Museum at Collins Barracks.

Work on Metro-North, which will run from St Stephen’s Green to the Belinstown, north of Swords, is expected to begin next year.

Tom Manning from the Railway Procurement Agency said it is hoped to have the statues back on O’Connell Street in 2016 for the 100th anniversary of 1916.
